Elisse’s Naturopathic Non-Negotiables

Date

When it comes to my health, I’ve learned that small, consistent habits make the biggest impact. While I don’t do everything perfectly (who does?), there are a few things I never compromise on. These are my non-negotiables—simple but powerful steps I take daily to support my body and reduce unnecessary exposures.

Filtered Water – If You Don’t Have a Filter, You Are the Filter

The quality of our water matters. Tap water can contain chlorine, heavy metals, fluoride, pesticides, and even pharmaceutical residues. Filtering your water helps reduce your exposure to these contaminants, supporting everything from gut health to hormone balance. There are many options, from basic filter jugs to benchtop systems and fully plumbed-in filtration. Something is always better than nothing—start where you can.

Fruit & Veg Wash – Non-Negotiable for Reducing Pesticide Load

I don’t buy everything organic—it’s just not realistic in today’s economy. But what I do make sure of is that my fruit and vegetables get a thorough wash. As soon as I get home, I soak them in a natural wash to help remove pesticides, waxes, and residues. This simple habit lowers my exposure to toxins and ensures my food is as clean as possible before I eat it.

Natural Deodorant – Because What Goes on Your Skin Matters

Sweating is a natural detox process, and I’m not about to block it with aluminium-laden antiperspirants. For the past three years, the Woohoo Stick has been my go-to, even getting me through Queensland’s hot and humid summers. Natural deodorants allow your body to sweat while neutralising odour—without the endocrine-disrupting chemicals.

Magnesium – The Supplement I Never Miss

From supporting my nervous system to helping with hormone balance, muscle recovery, and sleep, magnesium is one supplement I take daily. There are multiple forms, each with different benefits, so it’s worth speaking to your naturopath about what’s best for you. Whether from food, supplements, or topical sprays, getting enough magnesium makes a world of difference.

Non-Toxic Cleaning Supplies – For a Healthier Home and Body

Our homes should be a safe space, not a source of chemical exposure. Conventional cleaning products often contain synthetic fragrances, endocrine disruptors, and harsh chemicals that impact indoor air quality and skin health. Brands like Kin Kin and Koala Eco offer effective, plant-based alternatives that clean without compromising our health.

It’s About Progress, Not Perfection

It’s impossible to avoid all environmental toxins, and I certainly don’t do everything perfectly. But these are the things I consistently stick to—my non-negotiables. They help me feel my best while reducing my exposure in ways that are within my control. If you’re looking for a place to start, pick one and build from there.
