Lifestyle Doctor

Hi, Im Dr Lisa,

Hi, I’m Dr Lisa, an Australian-trained family doctor passionate about helping people transform their well-being through lifestyle changes. With 20 years of clinical experience, I’ve seen firsthand the limitations of relying too heavily on traditional medical treatments like tablets and surgery. I advocate for Lifestyle Medicine, a globally recognised branch of medicine that uses simple, sustainable lifestyle and behaviour changes to prevent, treat, and reverse chronic illness.

I studied medicine at the University of Melbourne and received my specialist qualification in General Practice in 2010 before eventually moving to sunny Queensland, where I have been practising for the past nine years. My interest in Lifestyle Medicine was sparked by a desire to uncover the root causes of my patient’s symptoms and provide them with practical tools through a whole-person approach.

Life can be busy and messy, and traditional medicine often overlooks this. I’ve seen my patients struggle with their health despite receiving the best conventional medical care. My approach is different. By offering simple, actionable steps that fit into any busy routine, I help people reduce stress, improve nutrition, and enjoy moving their bodies, dramatically improving their health and vitality.

Outside of work, I love spending time in nature with my partner and two active sons and working on my surfing skills—still a work in progress! I’ve also found that mindfulness meditation has been a game-changer for my well-being and that of my family.

I look forward to helping you get the health results you’ve always wanted!

Clinic Appointment Details

Assessment:

Before your appointment, I will email you a detailed questionnaire to assess your health, medical history, lifestyle habits, and health goals. I will review your questionnaire before your appointment so we can hit the ground running!

During your initial one-hour appointment, we can discuss your concerns in detail, and if needed, I can perform a physical examination and order any relevant tests. If you have any recent test results, please email them before your appointment.

If appropriate, I will ask you to do a 3-minute fitness assessment during the consultation. Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

Goal setting:

Together, we create a personalised plan so you can start implementing healthy lifestyle changes immediately. This plan will cover any areas relevant to you, including nutrition, movement, sleep habits, stress management, help reducing risky substances and social connectedness. I like using the ‘Healthy Habits’ app created by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. Feel free to check it out before your appointment at https://healthyhabits.racgp.org.au/apps/ .

Action plan:

My mission is to offer you practical and sustainable strategies to incorporate into your life now so you can be (and stay) the healthiest, happiest version of yourself. You are in the driver’s seat; you control the changes you make. I’m here to provide expert advice, guidance, and support along your journey.

Support and monitoring:

I recommend a follow-up appointment lasting up to one hour within four weeks of your first appointment. We can discuss test results and review your lifestyle plan. I can also discuss the need for further appointments with you at that time. You may benefit from a short-term, monthly, 15-minute face-to-face or Telehealth appointment for ongoing support to reach your health goals. If you wish, I will provide a letter to your regular GP to inform them of your treatment plan.

Appointments can only be made via the website www.vitalitylifestylemed.com

Please do not call the WholeLife Pharmacy number. Appointments cannot be made using the Vitality Lifestyle Medicine mobile number.

Please send a detailed text message including your full name to 0494 150 350. If possible, Dr Lisa will still be able to see you. If you are running significantly late, you may need to reschedule.

Dr Lisa’s practice is in the WholeLife Pharmacy and Healthfoods building at The Zone Shopping Centre, 32 Wises Rd, Maroochydore Qld. When you enter the pharmacy, turn left and walk past the shop cash register area. Look right; you will see the Vitality Lifestyle Medicine sign. Please go through the door and take a seat outside the marked consultation room door. Dr Lisa will invite you in at your appointment time.

Absolutely.  A Lifestyle Medicine plan complements, rather than replaces, the work you do with your GP. You will need to continue to see your usual GP for ongoing care, acute medical problems, and prescriptions. Vitality Lifestyle Medicine is not designed to replace the long-term patient care you receive from your GP.

The initial and follow-up appointments need to be held in person. This allows Dr Lisa to ensure she provides best-practice care. Short Telehealth consultations are available for existing patients up to monthly if needed to provide guidance and support in implementing the lifestyle medicine action plan.

All three of these branches of medicine aim to improve health more holistically than traditional Western medicine. Different approaches suit different people.

Lifestyle Medicine uses scientific evidence to help prevent, manage, and reverse chronic disease by focusing on six pillars: nutrition, physical activity, adequate sleep, minimising harmful substances, stress management, and social connectedness. It is not anti-medication or pro-supplements. It is a common-sense approach to achieving whole-person health by giving you the tools to manage your own goals.

Integrative Medicine combines conventional medical treatment with complementary and alternative health practices. An integrative approach might include medication, supplements, yoga, and acupuncture, among other modalities.

Functional Medicine is a biology systems-based approach that focuses on the root cause of disease. It uses extensive testing to determine the underlying cause and emphasises supplement use, among other treatment options.

Appointments are appropriate for anyone over 16 motivated to improve their health through lifestyle and habit change.
